Where It All Began
It started in 1963.
In Senjerimalai, a small village at the edge of Pollachi — the heart of coconut country in Tamil Nadu — my grandfather built a mill and began producing the traditional way. Slow. Cold. Honest. No chemicals. No shortcuts.
That mill has been running for over 60 years. My father entered the business as a teenager and has spent his entire life carrying forward what my grandfather built. The machines, the craft, the values — nothing changed. What was missing was a name.
Why I Started Zhagaram Wellness
I'm Harikrishna. After completing my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing and Operations, I went on to work at ICICI Bank and later at Tata Consultancy Services, where I worked with Diageo as a Business Analyst.
By all measures, my life was on a standard corporate track.
Then in 2021, I got COVID. I was hospitalised and given immune suppressants. The reaction triggered vitiligo — a condition I had never had before. It shook me deeply. I started asking questions I had never thought to ask. What exactly goes into the products we consume every single day?
The more I looked, the more I found —harmful chemicals in everyday products, natural ingredients stripped of everything good, wellness branding masking the opposite.
Meanwhile, back in Senjerimalai, my family's land and mill were producing things of genuine purity every single day. Nobody outside our community even knew they existed.
After my marriage in 2024, I came home. And I made a decision — to take this 60-year-old unbranded legacy and give it the name and the reach it deserves.
That is how Zhagaram Wellness was born.
What Zhagaram Means
Zhagaram — ழகரம் — is a sound unique to the Tamil language. A letter that exists nowhere else in the world. We chose this name deliberately, as a declaration of our Tamil identity, our roots, and the tradition we are proud to carry forward.
Wellness is not a trend for us. It is our family's 60-year practice.
