WHY THERE IS NO PERFECT SCORE

Real oil isn't made to score 100.

Freshness and quality move naturally with the raw material, pressing, handling and time. We would rather show you the measured result than turn normal variation into a perfect marketing number.

The score is a quick visual summary. The actual lab values are the proof.

ILLUSTRATIVE QUALITY PATTERN Not a lab result

Oil losing quality Age, heat or storage can move values

Lower-quality pattern More deterioration may show in measured values
Weaker

This comparison explains the score concept only. A low score does not by itself prove adulteration or that another oil is unsafe; individual test values and applicable limits should be read together.

Batch traceability

Don't take our word. Take the lab's.

Everyone in this aisle says "sulphur-free" and "lab-tested." We show you the actual report for the bottle in your hand.

A claim applies to a brand. A batch number applies to your bottle.

Checking…

Why isn’t this 100?

Because real oil is not manufactured to produce a perfect marketing number. Raw material, pressing, storage and time naturally affect the reading. We publish the measured score instead of rounding normal variation into perfection.

A score like this represents a strong batch reading at release. An oil that has spent longer in storage or through a longer supply chain may show more quality loss — but we do not score or rank another brand unless we have actually tested that batch.

About these readings

These numbers describe the oil as it left us. They come from one sealed sample of this batch, tested by an external NABL-accredited laboratory on the test date shown above. They are not a measurement of the specific bottle in your hand.

Why your bottle may differ. Once a bottle leaves us, freshness depends on things we can’t see from here:

  • Heat — stored near a stove, in a hot kitchen, or left in a vehicle or warm godown in transit.
  • Sunlight or bright shop lighting falling on the bottle.
  • Air — every time the cap comes off, and how long ago it was first opened.
  • Moisture — a wet spoon, water splashing in, or condensation inside the bottle.
  • Contamination — food particles, crumbs or a spoon used for something else.
  • Decanting into another jar, bottle or dispenser.
  • Reheating or reusing oil that has already been used for frying.
  • Simple passage of time. The score steps down as the best-before date approaches.

Trust your senses over any number. If the oil smells sharp, bitter, paint-like or simply “off”, or tastes wrong, stop using it whatever this page says — and please write to us.

What this is not. The freshness score is our own internal indicator, calculated from the lab readings and the shelf life remaining. It is not a regulatory grade, certification, rating or approval issued by any authority. This page is not a medical, diagnostic, nutritional or therapeutic report, and nothing here is a claim that any oil treats, prevents or cures anything.

Intended use. Our edible oils are food, meant for cooking and food use only. Castor oil is pressed for external and topical use only and is not edible. Questions or concerns: customercare@zhagaramwellness.com.

What the freshness score means
85–100 · Just-pressedTastes closest to the day it left the press.
70–84 · Kitchen-freshBright and ready for everyday cooking.
55–69 · Still freshGood — best enjoyed in the near term.
Below 55 · Enjoy soonFine and within limits, just past its freshest window.

Every score here is from a batch that cleared its safety checks and sits within FSSAI limits — a lower number never means lower quality, only that the oil is best enjoyed a little sooner.

Safety checks cleared
How is this score worked out?
Freshness is built from the three lab readings that track how fresh vs. stale an oil is — peroxide, acidity and moisture — each measured against the FSSAI limit for this oil. The further below each limit, the higher the score (peroxide counts most, then acidity, then moisture), and it’s gently adjusted for how much of the bottle’s shelf life is left.
  • Safety checks (aflatoxin & sulphur) are shown separately — anything above an FSSAI safety limit stops a batch showing as fresh.
  • Readings are from this batch’s lab test. The full signed report is available on request.

Freshness check

Peroxide value

What this means for you: This test looks for early oxidation — the change that can eventually make oil smell or taste stale.
Lower is generally preferable
Oil breakdown check

Free fatty acids

What this means for you: Free fatty acids can increase through moisture exposure, enzyme activity, poor handling or prolonged raw-material storage.
Moisture control

Moisture

What this means for you: Lower moisture supports storage stability and reduces conditions that encourage hydrolytic breakdown.
Sulphur check

Residual sulphur dioxide

What this means for you: This test is mainly relevant to copra handling claims and may not apply to every oil type.
Mould-toxin screening

Aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxins

FSSAI reference: Aflatoxin B1 must not exceed 10 µg/kg and total aflatoxins (B1+B2+G1+G2) must not exceed 15 µg/kg for oilseeds or oil.
Aflatoxin B1
FSSAI maximum: 10 µg/kg
Lower is preferable
Total aflatoxins
FSSAI maximum: 15 µg/kg

Getting the best from an unrefined oil+

Unrefined oil behaves a little differently from the refined stuff, and all of it is normal:

  • Keep the bottle capped, cool and out of direct sunlight. A kitchen shelf away from the stove is ideal.
  • Coconut oil sets solid below roughly 24°C and turns clear again in warmth. Colour, cloudiness and a little natural sediment vary from batch to batch — none of it affects quality.
  • Aroma and shade shift slightly with each harvest. Refined oils are deodorised to taste identical every time; ours aren’t.
  • Use a dry spoon, keep water out of the bottle, and finish it within the best-before window shown above.
About these results+
  • Every result on this page belongs to the single batch you searched for. It is not a claim about any other batch, bottle or product.
  • Testing is carried out by an external NABL-accredited laboratory on a sealed sample drawn from that batch. Reference limits shown are the applicable FSSAI limits for that oil.
  • The freshness score is our own internal indicator, calculated from the lab readings and the shelf life remaining. It is not a regulatory grade, certification or rating issued by any authority.
  • Castor oil is pressed and sold for external and topical use only. It is not an edible oil and is kept outside our edible-oil traceability line.
  • Nothing here is medical, nutritional or therapeutic advice, and no oil on this page is offered as a treatment for any condition. Please speak to a qualified professional for health guidance.
